Defined as “ongoing hurtful behaviour towards someone online”, cyber-bullying makes its victims feel upset, uncomfortable and unsafe. In the digital world, it has numerous forms – such as hurtful comments on a person’s posts or profile; deliberately leaving them out of group chats; sharing embarrassing images or videos of someone; or spreading gossip about them. Cyber-bullying can severely impact a young person’s mental health … so, in support of Anti-Bullying Week, we’ve provided a list of tips to help trusted adults know what to look for and how to respond to it.
In the guide, you’ll find tips such as playing online games with your child, talking about your child’s online life and being prepared to listen without showing any judgement or criticism.
Congratulations Libby Rees who is representing Northumberland SFA U16 football team and they are unbeaten after 2 games this season.
Dear Parents/Carers
Wansbeck Valley Food Bank Collection
The Beacon Team have chosen Wansbeck Valley Food Bank as the charity we would like to support this term. We have chosen them again as they are a local food bank that support many families in our area. Due to the current cost of living crisis, the support they offer is even more valuable. To help support them we are having a collection of goods. This can include things like long-life foods, tinned products, toiletries and items we may buy over Christmas such as, boxes of biscuits, puddings, Christmas crackers or chocolates etc.
If you feel you can help this worthwhile cause, please send any donations into school with your child. Donations can be handed to their form teacher. Please can all donations be at school by the morning of 8th December 2022.
If you have any queries or would like to know more about how you can support or how to access support from the food bank, please get in touch with your child’s Head of Year.
You can also contact Wansbeck Valley Food Bank directly on 07841 908477 or by email on
wansbeckvalleyfoodbank@gmail.com Referrals can also be made via GPs or Socia Services.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely
Andrea Henderson and The Beacon Team
Amigo is a social platform which purports to connect strangers from around the world – and, with built-in translation software, it reduces the expected language barriers. Focusing heavily on one-to-one chat, video calls and live streams, Amigo encourages its users to build up online relationships to unlock exclusive features such as private video and audio calls: essentially, the more that people chat, the more features become available to them. This is an app designed with mature users very much in mind and is therefore definitely not recommended for children.Â
In the guide, you’ll find tips on a number of potential risks such as inappropriate contact, strangers and membership costs.Â
