Student Finance for Higher Education

For students going to university following Year 13, applying for student finance can be daunting. During the spring term of Year 13 we hold workshops in school to explain the process to students. Students are required to apply online and in most cases it is also necessary for parents/ carers to support their application by provided information on factors such as household income. The websites below provide detailed information on the application process and also the support students may be entitled to. Parents/ carers and students can also speak to the Sixth Form team anytime for further support.

Additional funding for Higher Education

Many universities and colleges offer their own bursaries and scholarships to students. Institutions set their own eligibility criteria for this type of support; for example, you may be eligible if you are from a low-income household, or if you are a particularly high achiever in a specific subject.

Each institution decides what support they will offer so students will need to do their research. We advise that students speak directly to the university or college they are interested in to find out if there is anything available.

Other sources for information include the Grant Fairy app which can be accessed on mobile phones and tablets or using the website https://www.grantfairy.com/ Grant Fairy matches students with scholarships, bursaries and grants to help pay tuition fees and reduce student loans.

Duke’s students have accounts on Unifrog which features a special opportunities tool allowing students to search for bursaries and scholarships linked to either their subject or institution of choice.
