Introduction

In the KS3 PE Curriculum there is a focus on further development of fundamental skills and providing opportunities to become physically confident in a way which supports student health and fitness. In Key Stage 3 our learners are taught a structured and varied programme of physical education including athletics, dance, games (net/wall, invasion and hitting/striking), including problem solving and leadership sessions designed to develop generic, transferable skills that are required in all sports. In addition, opportunities are provided to compete in sports and other activities to help build character and embed values such as fairness and respect.

Good links have been established with external PE providers. In the last few years we have developed links with Northumbria University, Newcastle United, Northumberland Rugby Football Union, Ashington Rugby Club, Newcastle Eagles basketball and Newcastle Falcons.

Extra-curricular PE and sport provision has significantly increased through lunchtime and after-school sessions, along with a calendar of fixtures/events.
