‘Students are supported effectively in selecting programmes of study that are best suited to their needs and ability’ (Ofsted 2017)
Key Stage 5 Curriculum Overview
To select the correct curriculum for you, you need to take into account your predicted attainment 8 score. You will follow a programme of either two double or four single or one double and two single courses at L3, and the details of this are contained in the prospectus. There are also a number of L2 pathways available to you, and our Public Services Pathway, in conjunction with our Combined Cadet Force.
Choosing your subject combination is the most important decision that you have yet made in your education. Think and research carefully; find out more about the subjects by reading the prospectus and by talking to the staff who teach them. Consider if your subject choices match your future ambitions, whether that be employment or university.
Students with an attainment 8 score of fewer than 40 will be able to access our new Level 2 pathway. This is a one year option designed for students who wish to come into JBVI but are not quite ready to progress on to Level 3 courses. It is designed as a preparatory year with the expectation that students will move on to the Level 3 vocational pathway for the next academic year if they have reached the required standard to do so. If you move into JBVI and have not passed GCSE English and/or maths with at least a grade 4 then it is now a mandatory requirement that you re-sit these qualifications. These subjects are vital for entry into university or employment.
